Emma is the key member of the City of Bristol College’s Strategic Leadership Team with oversight for curriculum and quality. Emma is accountable to the College's Board of Governors for curriculum development and ensuring that it meets local economic priorities. In discharging this responsibility Emma works closely with the West of England Combined Authority, the West of England Local Enterprise Partnership and with a range of employers such as St Monica Trust, Airbus, Bristol City Council and Bristol Airport. In addition to being a Board member of the Hope Virtual School Emma has contributed to the development of the One City Plan, led by the Mayor of Bristol, and chairs the Learning City Partnership Post 16 Strategy Task and Finish Group.
Emma is accountable for quality and standards in all programmes at the College. She leads the College’s quality team, self-assessment, assurance and quality improvement processes. She is passionate about enhancing social mobility and doing what’s right for students, employers and our communities, by raising aspirations and developing the skills for life-long learning, employability and civic engagement.
After an early career as a musician, performing professionally and leading a range of community arts projects in the North West, Emma moved into teaching in the FE sector. She spent time living in south west France where she gained valuable insight into the French approach to vocational and academic training and education.
Prior to joining City of Bristol College, Emma was Vice Principal for Quality and Learner Services at South Gloucestershire and Stroud College for over four years, before which she held the position of Assistant Principal Curriculum at London’s largest college from 2011-2013. Emma has 12 years’ experience as a part-time Ofsted inspector, and almost 30 years working across FE and Skills both in the private and public sectors.
Emma still enjoys the creative arts. When she has time, and alongside being a mum to two teenage boys, she also enjoys the occasional run.
