Paul James is the Director of Curriculum and Quality at City of Bristol College, where he holds overall responsibility for all of the 16 to 18, adult, apprenticeship and Higher Education provision. In this role, Paul leads the senior curriculum teams, ensuring that the College meets its strategic aims and delivers against identified skills priorities. Prior to this, Paul worked for Ofsted as a Her Majesty’s Inspector of Further Education and Skills, leading inspections on colleges, independent training providers and community learning organisations. Before joining Ofsted, Paul held senior leadership roles in further education, including Deputy Principal.
Paul is a University of Cambridge alumni holding an undergraduate degree in Music as well as master’s degrees in Music and Arts Culture and Education.
In the late 1990s, Paul spent three years in London, working as a recruitment consultant in the financial services and catering industries, before training as a secondary school music teacher. After four years in secondary schools, Paul moved into other education settings and has worked in further education, special school, initial teacher training and higher education.
